How is Marseille soap made ?

First of all, it is important to know that Marseille soap is composed of 72% vegetable oils, water, sea salt and soda.

  • 1st step : Mashing : This is the transformation of vegetable oils into soap in a large cauldron. 
  • 2nd step : The release : The addition of sea salt in the mixture which will allow to separate the soap from the water. 
  • 3rd step : Cooking : For 10 days, the soap is cooked at 120°C, this is the saponification.
  • 4th step : Washing : The soap is washed several times with pure water to get rid of impurities. 
  • Step 5: Pouring: The soap paste is poured into large molds. 
  • 6th step: The drying, cutting and molding of the soap.
