What is a splinter?
A splinter is a small, pointed fragment that has penetrated under the skin or under a nail. Without care, it can cause local redness and severe pain, or even infection. A small dark dot often indicates its location.
How do I remove a splinter?
- Step 1: Clean the wound!
Place the wound in a bath of warm soapy water for a few minutes. This will soften the skin and facilitate extraction. Rinse and then disinfect with an antiseptic without pressing.
- Step 2: Let's take action
Gently remove the splinter with the pharmacy splinter clips previously disinfected with alcohol. You can help yourself with a magnifying glass if necessary. Be very careful not to break it in half and remove it in the opposite direction to that of its penetration.
- Step 3: We check
Make sure that the entire splinter has been removed, and then cover the wound with a bandage.
If you have difficulty catching the splinter because it is deep, apply an alcohol compress. This will soften the skin and facilitate extraction.
